Manchester United’s interest in Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka has come to fruition recently, with reports suggesting the 22-year-old German is being targeted by the Red Devils.
Now the man himself has spoken out and confirmed that he’ll be making a final decision when January rolls around.
‘I have to consider a million things. I am a person who is very meticulous in such decisions. I play through all the scenarios. So I need time.’ Goretzka is quoted as saying by The Metro.
‘There doesn’t exist a deadline, but I think we are in the final phase. ‘The final decision will be made in January.’
Goretzka’s contract expires next summer, meaning he’ll be free to talk to other clubs when we enter the new year. No doubt, a whole host of top class sides will show an interest in the brilliantly talented German, and I’d be disappointed if United weren’t in the queue to try and lure him to the Theatre of Dreams.
United’s midfield has been great at times, but, if we’re being honest, it lacks in any real depth. Outside of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, we’re lacking in real quality, and let’s not forget that Michael Carrick will need replacing sooner rather than later. Bringing in Goretzka on a free transfer would be an insanely good piece of business, now it’s down to the club to convince the German to choose Old Trafford.
