Man United want to sign James Rodrigez from Real Madrid: report

Manchester United are still one or two players away from truly being able to compete at the highest level. It’s all about getting the next few signings right – which is something that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems more than adept at.

Today, a new (yet familiar) name has been thrown back into the ring; James Rodriguez. After bursting on the scene at the World Cup way back in 2014, the Colombian’s stock has slowly declined during his time at Real Madrid.

Apparently, he’s still on United’s radar, though. The story comes from AS, who claimed that United want to sign the classy 28-year-old. They’ll face stiff competition from Napoli.

Rodriguez is predominantly an attacking midfielder, though he can play on the wing, which has been a problem position for United recently – particularly that right-hand side.

With just over one-year left on his current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real now feel that this is the time to cash in. Florentino Perez actually believes the Madrid-based outfit can still get a decent transfer fee for Rodriguez, despite recent struggles.

I loved watching Rodriguez play four or five years ago. However, his confidence has took a huge knock and a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich didn’t really help him.

Simply put, this feels like a gamble that United don’t necessarily need to make. There are better, younger players out there in the current climate and this would have to be regarded as a risk – and not one worth taking in my opinion…
