Ah, the transfer rumour that just won’t go away has reared its ugly head again…
According to Don Balon, Manchester United are back in the hunt to bring Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale to Old Trafford.
Their report states that Bale has already agreed personal terms with the Red Devils, with the Welshman already having bought a house in Manchester.
To add to that, Don Balon state that United are willing to pay up to €80m (£70m) to bring the 29-year-old to the Theatre of Dreams. However, Los Blancos are holding out for €120m to let him leave.
While right-wing has been a real problem for United of late, at this juncture, I question whether Bale is the right fit. Don’t get me wrong, there’s no doubt he’d improve any side in world football, but I feel as though that ship has sailed.
His best years are now probably behind him and Bale does have a horrific injury record. With youngsters like Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes knocking on the door of the squad, I’d much prefer to see the club either move forward with those guys – or opt for a short-term fix that is considerably cheaper.
It’s a big risk to take and it’s one that Edward Woodward is clearly seriously interested in. Whatever happens, it’ll be intriguing to see how this one plays out.
