Manchester United have just five months to make a contractual decision regarding Juan Mata, according to the IB Times.
The Spaniard’s contract runs out in the summer, with the club yet to make a decision about tying him down to a new deal, despite the fact that they’ve an option to extend his current deal by a further year if they so choose.
Mata, who currently earns a huge £165,000-a-week at Manchester United, will be free to talk to other European sides about signing a pre-contract on January 1st, so as of right now, he could well be in discussion with another side.
When he signed for the Old Trafford club, I think it’s fair to say that we all expected to see much more from the attacking midfielder, but, the system hasn’t really suited him well, and we’ve seen some great patches of form from him, coupled with plenty of poor moments.
With all that said, he’s an incredibly valuable asset to have on United’s books. He’s an extremely intelligent player when in possession, and he certainly gives us something different when the going gets tough.
