Manchester United’s Sam Johnstone will be staying on loan at Aston Villa until the end of the season, according to the Championship sides owner, Tony Xia, per Sky Sports News.
The news comes just hours after reports emerged suggesting that the goalkeeper would be brought back to Old Trafford, then permanently sold to West Bromwich Albion.
Johnstone, 24, is making a real name for himself at Villa Park, and no doubt the regular playing time is massively helping him. However, with all that said, I still don’t see how he’ll break into the Manchester United team whenever he does return.
I’d be extremely surprised if Johnstone isn’t sold this summer, as that certainly feels like the best business play at the moment. His value will be as high as it’s ever been and no doubt someone will take a punt on him from either the Championship or a low-level Premier League club.
It would be a shame to see him go, but when you’ve got keepers like David de Gea, Sergio Romero and even Joel Pereira, it’s going to take a miracle for Johnstone to usurp that trio.
