Manchester United’s season looks to be in tatters. The Red Devils have lost eight from their last ten as the pressure begins to build on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Yesterday’s derby highlights just how far behind the top teams we truly are. City were levels above throughout, the Baby FAced Assassin has a monumental task on his hands.
Naturally, players will be questioning whether their future now lies at Old Trafford. Rumours have been swirling in regards to Romelu Lukaku is planning to stay here in the long-term. Now, the 25-year-old has added fuel to that fire…
Speaking in an interview, United’s #9 has claimed that playing in Serie A would be a ‘dream’. Honestly, the timing of these comments couldn’t be any worse.
‘I hope to be able to play sooner or later, even if at the moment I am focused on United.’
It’s like when Paul Pogba said similar about Real Madrid. The fact that Lukaku says he’s focused on United is just robotic in a way. It’s a token gesture, a typical footballer’s answer when he’s angling for a move elsewhere.
To hear that is disappointing. Why’s he flirting with a move to Italy when United are right in the heat of battle? it’s frustrating and the fans had already begun to turn on Lukaku thanks to some below average performances. This certainly isn’t going to help his case upon the terraces.
The ball is in United’s court, however, Lukaku still has a few years left on his current deal and if the Red Devils want to keep him then I don’t see him departing. It all comes down to whether he’s part of Solskjaer’s long-term plans…
