Manchester United got one over on Tottenham Hotspur and Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford last night – with another big test coming this Saturday.
The Red Devils head to Eastlands to take on Manchester City this Saturday – in a game that gives United a massive opportunity to prove that they’re fully behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Before the game, though, a key United attacker is doubtful for Saturday’s Manchester derby through injury; Anthony Martial. The story comes from the Daily Mail, with the French attacker missing the 2-1 victory over Spurs just last night.
‘So he will be out for a little while.’
At this point, I’m not sure there’s a player within that United dressing room who blows hot and cold as Martial does. When he’s brilliant, he’ practically unstoppable. When he’s bad, he’s nonexistent.
Then when you factor in the constant niggling injuries that keep him sidelined, you have every right to be concerned. After all, following his stunning debut season, there was talk of a player who could be a future Ballon d’Or winner.
Being without him for any prolonged period of time is a real problem due to the fact that United’s attacking line has been thinned out by Solskjaer. The only realistic option to replace Martial is Mason Greenwood – and he drifted in and out of proceedings against Spurs himself.
That said, if Martial can’t make it, I’d definitely stick with Greenwood up front rather than tinkering with the formation. United have actually been pretty good against teams that give them space, so we’ve got some reasons to be confident going into a huge derby day…
