Man United’s Dean Henderson expects to spend next season with Sheffield United

For all their faults, one area of the field that Manchester United have been pretty good at recently is goalkeepers.

David de Gea and Sergio Romero have both been fantastic, but it could soon be time for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to find the next big thing in terms of shot-stoppers.

Perhaps United already have that man on their books in Dean Henderson, who was truly brilliant for Sheffield United in the Championship last term.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the 22-year-old ‘expects’ to spend another season on loan with The Blades, after talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this week.

The MEN’s article says United’s goalkeeping future depends solely on De Gea, who is yet to agree a new deal at United. With just one year left on his current contract, the Reds are apparently ready to run down his contract until January – from which point he’d be free to talk to overseas clubs about signing a pre-contract.

Henderson’s contract also expires in twelve months time, but United hold the option to extend that for a further year – with the Reds keen to negotiate a new contract for the goalkeeper as part of any potential arrangement.

United, understandably, want to ease Henderson into the first-team fold due to the serenity of Europa League football, although the player is insistent on playing regular minutes in the Premier League going into this campaign; hence why a loan move to Sheffield United seems to be on the agenda.

I’m more than fine with Henderson going out on loan and playing for Sheffield United again. He has been super for them and it makes sense for him to continue his development with a team who are more than willing to give him the playing time that his talent deserves.
