Man Utd blow as defensive trio ruled out of WBA game

Manchester United have a defensive crisis on their hands at the moment, which is disappointing going into the final four games of the season, of which United need to win two to secure a spot in the Champions League next term.

The three players who are certain to miss the visit of West Brom are Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Jonny Evans. On top of that Phil Jones is a doubt and according to Van Gaal he is ‘lacking match rhythm’.

Luke Shaw has had a real season to forget in his first year at United. He has been blighted by injuries from minute one, and the extent of this latest groin problem is yet to be discovered.

Marcos Rojo is also missing with a groin injury, and injury experts PhysioRoom are yet to put a timescale on his return, whereas Jonny Evans has sciatica after a lengthy layoff following his ban for spitting at Papiss Cisse.

Picking the back four for tomorrow’s game is now a tough one. Daley Blind will probably start at left-back, with Antonio Valencia continuing at right-back despite a poor performance last time out.

Chris Smalling is a certainty, but its whether Phil Jones will partner him, or will Van Gaal keep the faith and stick with the young Paddy McNair.
