Manchester United’s intentions for this summer are clear, with Louis van Gaal making a swoop for his fellow countryman Memphis Depay late on last week. Now however, he could well be prepared to let another Dutch compatriot leave Old Trafford this summer.
According to the usually reliable Guardian newspaper, Louis van Gaal is prepared to listen to offers for the ageing Robin van Persie, who turns 32 in a few months.
The Flying Dutchman has had a very stop-start season, having suffered from a few injuries allowing him to not really get started at all in terms of performances.
Van Persie has just one year left on his contract, and Robin himself is intent on staying at Manchester United and earning a new contract that’ll keep him at the club beyond next summer.
I fully understand both sides of the argument. We all know what Robin van Persie can offer this club, but after a poor season by his standards, getting him off the wage bill wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world either.
