Manchester United have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of the Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne. Many expected that he’d follow Memphis Depay through the Old Trafford doors this summer, but that is now looking increasingly unlikely.
According to ESPN, Clyne has dropped the agent who was pushing a move through to Manchester United for him, and he has opened talks with the Saints about staying at the club in the long-term.
This is disappointing news. The 24-year old right-back would’ve come into the club and been a constant in an area of the field that United have been lacking in for a while, and to hear that he is now considering staying at Southampton isn’t great news.
If this is the case, Louis van Gaal must start looking at other targets sooner rather than later, because if we leave it too late the other options might not be available when the window officially opens next month.
