Man Utd defensive duo not fit enough to start against Liverpool

Manchester United head to Anfield in what will be Steven Gerrard’s last appearance against the Red Devils. With a spot in the top four potentially at stake, Louis van Gaal will have to get his side as motivated as possible for the game. However he’ll be without two key names due to injury.

The Dutchman confirmed that both Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo won’t be available to start the game on Sunday, however they could be fit enough to be in the match day squad.

That almost certainly means Daley Blind will continue at left-back, and we’ll see the defensive duo of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling start at the heart of the defence.

Marcos Rojo has brought an energy and life to United since his arrival, and that’ll be a huge miss this weekend. Luke Shaw on the other hand is becoming a bit of a concern, he seems to get back to fitness and then pick up another little niggling injury that keeps him out for a few weeks. Hopefully he’ll be able to get over that in the summer.
