Man Utd have ‘preliminary agreement’ in place to sign defender

Louis van Gaal clearly has to bring in some defenders this summer, and the Iron Tulip is intent on getting his transfer business done early. According to reports in Spain, Manchester United have a preliminary agreement in place to sign Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia.

Otamendi, 27, has been in superb form for the Spanish side this term, and his stock on the world stage has clearly risen dramatically over the past twelve months.

The Argentinian was relatively unheard of until the last couple of years, and he seems to be one of those players who develop their games quite late in their careers. Which for a defender isn’t the worst trait in the world as they tend to mature late.

Manchester United need a senior figure who can take control of the back line, and thats something which we’ve been lacking since the departure of Nemanja Vidic last summer. Otamendi would certainly bring some of that calmness back into the side, but I feel we’d probably need someone else to join him also.

Would Otamendi be a good signing? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
