Manchester United are almost certainly in for a centre-back of some description in this January transfer window, and they could yet land a world class signing before the winter window slams shut at the end of the month, as they continue to pursue Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.
According to TalkSPORT, United haven’t given up hope of signing Hummels this month. Louis van Gaal isn’t looking for any short-term fixes, and he’ll only make signings if they fit the bill in the long run. 26-Year old Hummels certainly fits that bill, and his experience could prove vital at the heart of a very young defence.
For me, Hummels is arguably the best centre-back in the world, and he’d certainly go a long way to improving the defensive situation thats going on at the moment. The only problem is his fitness, as he’s struggled to stay fit for prolonged periods of this season so far.
TalkSPORT go on to say that United are also keen on Morgan Schniederlin and Kevin Strootman, but both of those moves look extremely unlikely in the middle of the season, and are more realistic for the summer.
