Manchester United Football Club have always been excellent when it comes to developing young players and turning them into something special.
The Red Devils are excelling at that mantra under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, though every so often, one slips through the net.
Solskjaer has done well to tie Tahith Chong down to a new deal, though the club are still running the risk of losing Angel Gomes for nothing.
The story comes from The Sun, who state that United have made a ‘last-ditch’ contract offer to the starlet, while the Old Trafford outfit are ‘desperate’ to stop Gomes from leaving for free.
In terms of wages, around £30,000-a-week, plus bonuses, is apparently on the table. For a player who only has a handful of first-team appearances, all of which have been pretty underwhelming, that’s an awful lot of money.
United have just moved away from overpaying, so if this is the case and Gomes actually does sign the contract, I hope they’re 100% sold on what he’ll offer this club in the long-term.
The Sun also talk about reported interest from Chelsea in Gomes. Honestly, that’s probably not the place for him, either. If the Englishman is dead-set on leaving, it’d probably make sense to take a step back and join a club who can offer him week-in-week-out playing time.
