Manchester United’s squad overhaul has been ongoing since Mourinho took charge of the club, and that looks set to continue. One man who’ll be staying at the club despite exit rumours is Daley Blind, and the man confirmed that himself in a recent interview.
“People were making that mistake very quickly [that Blind would leave],” he said.
“But nothing was said and just like all the other guys I want to work very hard and get my spot in the team.”
“I think in football, you never really have assurances but I believe if you are confident and work hard that you will get chances.”
“That is what makes it a big club and good for players. I definitely think as a player you always have to work hard and show the best of yourself and be confident.
“I’m confident with my own qualities so I have to show it over and over again.
“I think in pre-season until now I’m doing a great job and I’ll keep working hard and we see how it ends.”
Ever since his arrival, Mourinho made it clear he didn’t want to carry many versatile players in his squad, and instead he looks for the ‘specialist’ footballers. However, Daley Blind is different.
The 26-year-old is one of the most intelligent footballers we’ve seen at this club, and he took to the centre-back role like a dream last term. Now, it looks as though he’ll be used further up the field which he is without doubt more natural with. I’m glad he’s staying at this club because he clearly loves it here, and hopefully, he gets the game time he more than deserves.
Although Jose isn’t convinced by these types of players, Daley Blind will have to prove his worth over the next twelve months, and I’m more than confident our Dutchman will be more than able to do so.
