Manchester United gave a massive chance to Donald Love last month, as he made his first Premier League appearance for the club against Sunderland. However since that day, Love has claimed that Van Gaal hasn’t spoken to him since – despite playing rather well.
“He told me after the Sunderland game I’d done well and that I was one of the better players. That gives your confidence a boost going into the next game.” Love began.
“In the Sunderland game I was surprised how comfortable I was. I was bombing forward and the winger didn’t get past me once.”
“I just played my own game. The pace of the match didn’t bother me because our 21s coach nails fitness into us.”
“But we lost the next game and I’ve fallen out of it since then. I don’t regret anything because I did my best when I was out there. But I wanted to win.
“The manager hasn’t spoken to me yet, but I think that’s just how he is. I think I see him how you lot see him. It’s either his way or no other way.
“That’ s how I think he’s always been by the sounds of it. People have taken their chances, too, so I’m waiting for another chance.”
Its a shame that Love hasn’t been involved more really, but he plays in an area that currently has plenty of strength in depth. We have Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia, Guillermo Varela, Marcos Rojo and even Fosu-Mensah ahead of him in the full-back slot at the moment, and this is before you take Luke Shaw into consideration too.
