Manchester United have been boosted in their hunt for their long-term ‘Michael Carrick replacement’, according to reports in Germany. Ilkay Gundogan isn’t planning on renewing his Dortmund contract, and is ready to move to Manchester United.
The news comes from Der Westen, who are one of the more reliable media outlets in Germany, and it seems that the 24-year old has his sights set on a new challenge, and Manchester United in particular.
I’d love to see Gundogan at Old Trafford, but if I were Louis van Gaal I’d be making sure that his injury problems are behind him. He was out for around a year before making a return recently, and that must be a concern at such a young age.
Putting that aside though, his all-round game is wonderful. He scores goals, makes the right passes and doesn’t shirk a tackle. Most importantly he can run with the ball and he is full of energy, meaning he’ll suit Van Gaal’s philosophy perfectly.
