You’d have to say that Manchester United’s biggest game of the season takes place this coming Thursday. The Red Devils head to Spain to take on Celta Vigo in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final, and what an intriguing prospect it is.
Celta are no mugs. Heck, they’ve turned over both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona this season, and obviously, they’ve done supremely well to reach this stage of the competition.
Ahead of the fixture, one of their star men, and former City player John Guidetti has attempted to fuel the fire by claiming that ‘Manchester is blue’. Ok mate…
“I played in England and lived in Manchester for six years, so I follow both of the teams there,” he told UEFA’s official website, as per Goal.
“United are a very good team. Obviously, they’ve got a good manager, a fantastic stadium, and they’re one of the favourites to win the Europa League.”
“But as they say, Manchester is blue, and that’s how it will be when we visit there as well, because we are Celta Vigo and we will try to keep the city blue.”
First of all, the 25-year-old played ONE game for Manchester City, and that was a cup match. Alright, he may have lived in Manchester for six years, but when it comes to the rivalry he’s pretty much as irrelevant as they come.
I understand that he’s just trying to irk us, but it’s really not working. At the end of the day we all know that Manchester is Red, it always has been and unless City go on some monumental trophy streak whereas we go dry, it’ll take a very long time for that to change.
Back onto the game we have in prospect, then. I’m looking forward to watching us play in such a high-pressure situation, but I have to admit that I am concerned about the sheer amount of injuries we have going into the game. I guess we’ll just have to see how this one plays out.
