Manchester United Football Club have activated a one-year extension clause in Ashley Young’s contract, keeping him at Old Trafford until at least the end of next season.
That’s according to Sky Sports News, who tweeted the information earlier today. The veteran, who can literally play anywhere on the field, has been Jose Mourinho’s first-choice left-back this season. On the whole, he’s been brilliant, whereas Luke Shaw has struggled massively.
With Shaw’s future certainly up in the air (in my opinion anyway), it makes perfect sense to keep Young at Manchester United for at least one more season. If we were to let him go, the only barely recognisable left-sided full-back at the club is Matteo Darmian… That just spells trouble.

I know he isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, I love Young. He fights for the cause, works hard, he will influence the game in an attacking sense, and defensively, he’s more than capable; just look at the job he did on Mohamed Salah just a few weeks ago.
With that said, he’s getting up there in age now at 32. Mourinho simply has to be looking at a long-term replacement for the Englishman and don’t be surprised to see a new left-back signed over the summer.
