According to reports, Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Dutch centre-back Stefan de Vrij from Feyenoord. The deal is thought to be around the £8million mark, but isn’t expected to go through until after Holland are eliminated from the World Cup.
De Vrij is just 22-years old, and whilst he may be a fantastic prospect for the future, Manchester United need proven quality that are able to come in and perform straight away.
As we all know, our current trio of centre-backs can be quite prone to injury, so we need someone who has a good track record in that sense, too.
I’d much prefer a Hummels, or a Vermaelen to someone like De Vrij. Although that said, Louis van Gaal does know him well through his Holland duties, and the 62-year old manager excels when it comes to promoting youth.
