Manchester United and David de Gea in talks over a new contract

Manchester United’s David de Gea had a shaky start to his Old Trafford career three years ago, but since then the young Spaniard has gone from strength-to-strength, rapidly improving his status as one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League. I can honestly say as a United fan, theres no keeper in the world I’d rather have between the sticks.

This week he also made his first start for his country, which would’ve been an extremely proud moment. The Spanish manager Vicente Del Bosque has stated that he’d like to try him in a game with more pressure attached to it, and if he does well he could establish himself as the Spanish #1.

According to The Times, De Gea is set for a shiny new contract at Manchester United, and the club will surely be keen to tie their Player of the Season down to a long-term contract, to ward any interest off from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

He’s surely set to get an increase on his £75,000-a-week wages, too.

At the end of the day, he’s Spanish and his heart will be in his home country despite the stature of Manchester United. One day I think he’ll return home, but hopefully we’ll be lucky enough to witness his growth in the Premier League for the next few years at least.
