Manchester United begin negotiations to sign striker, club want £70m: report

Manchester United Football Club simply have to bring in a new striker during this transfer window, particularly as Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 28-goal haul will need replacing. One name that has constantly been linked with an Old Trafford switch is that of Alvaro Morata.

The 24-year-old is currently plying his trade for Real Madrid, who won the league and Champions League double last season. However, Morata was merely a bit-part as he drifted in and out of the team.

Now, English journalist Tom McDermott has had his say on the situation, and he is claiming that United and Madrid have opened up negotiations regarding the Spaniard; with Los Blancos holding out for €80m (£70.6m)

Morata scored 20 goals last season which is a mightily impressive haul given the fact that he wasn’t a regular starter. In the modern market, £70million for a proven player with his best years ahead of him isn’t all that ridiculous.

If I were Edward Woodward I’d be trying to push these negotiations through as quickly as possible, because the longer this drags on, it gives other clubs time to come in and swoop. On top of that, the sooner the deal is done, the easier it’ll be for Morata to get used to life in a new city, playing in a new league.
