Manchester United believe they’ve won Gundogan race

David Moyes and Manchester United believe they’ve began their summer spending already, as The Sunday People claim that the Reds have won the signature of Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan. The 23-year old has been sidelined for most of the season, but that seemingly hasn’t warded off the interest in Gundogan from top clubs.

The player is apparently valued at a huge £32million by his current club Dortmund, however United won’t be paying with pure cash as Shinji Kagawa is looking set for a return to his former employers. When fully fit Ilkay Gundogan is one of the best central midfielders in European football. He can score goals, create them for teammates and he has a great engine which is exactly what United need.

Although I’d be sad to see Kagawa leave as we all know that he is a world-class attacking midfielder, things haven’t worked out for him at United which is sometimes the case. Its best to let him go now whilst he still has some value, and no doubt he’ll go back to his brilliant best.

The concern with Gundogan is the ongoing back problem. Recent reports have suggested that its a chronic injury which could potentially end his career. Borussia Dortmund have remained tight-lipped on the situation as of yet, but hopefully the worst is behind him.
