Manchester United boosted as key man expected to return sooner than first thought

Manchester United were thought to have been dealt a major blow over the international period, as reports suggested Michael Carrick had torn his achilles, and was expected to face a lengthy period on the sidelines. However that may not be the case.

According to the usually reliable Manchester Evening News, the experienced central midfielder is expected to make a quicker recovery than first thought, although no timescale has been put on his return.

We should know more around this time tomorrow, after Louis van Gaal meets the media in his pre-match press conference for the Watford game. Until then, we should take all news with a pinch of salt and wait for some official conformation direct from the club.

The 34-year old is such a pivotal man for Manchester United, and to be without him for any period of time will be a struggle, so hopefully we can have him fit and ready to go ahead of the hectic winter period.
