Manchester United have probably passed up on the signatures of plenty of players in the past, but Sir Alex Ferguson has opened up about one in particular. He claimed that he had the chance to sign David Silva, but turned the opportunity down.
“We watched Silva a lot when he was at Valencia,” Sir Alex began.
“And the other player they had, the same type, years before it, played in that No.10 role.
“My problem with that was you have to be very, very good to play in that position, because there’s no defensive duties for them.
“So if you’re wanting to be be really successful, everyone has to do their turn, has to work, you know?”
It always is a gamble when you sign a player who focuses solely on attacking and doesn’t have any defensive duties whatsoever. However when you can play a pass like David Silva can its certainly worth the risk.
He is without doubt one of the best in the world at his position and can cut open any team in the space of one fantastic ball, and I’d have loved to have seen him at Old Trafford but it wasn’t meant to be.
