Manchester United spent big in the summer transfer window, with Jose Mourinho looking to bolster his squad and boost his options – to try and bring in players that fit his system and style of play. The manager’s work is nowhere near done, and it will continue into the January period.
Now it looks as though Jose is closing in on his first deal for the aforementioned winter window that opens in just over one week’s time, if reports from O’Jogo in Portgual are to be believed (see an English translation via the Star here).
The report says that Manchester United could seal a deal for SL Benfica’s Victor Lindelof in January, worth around the £38million mark which seems hugely expensive for a man who is just twenty-two years old.
Lindelof is a centre-back who comes from Sweden, and has really emerged as a top talent over the last year or so. He is closing in on thirty league appearances for the Portuguese side, and already has eleven senior caps for his country as well.
The Star add that Jose wants to bring him in due to the fact that he’ll be short of options when Eric Bailly jets off to the African Cup of Nations. Although both Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones have done very well, they’ll certainly look light in that area of the field when the Ivorian does leave. Obviously, Lindelof provides that extra bit of cover.
