Manchester United Football Club plan to extend the contracts of both Ander Herrera and Juan Mata this season, according to ESPN’s sources. Furthermore, ESPN adds that the Red Devils are confident both players will sign on the dotted line and extend their Old Trafford stay.
The duo both have existing contracts that expire next summer, and now seems like the perfect time to open up talks and get them tied down to new long-term deals. However, if worst comes to the worst, they both have one-year extension options that Jose Mourinho can activate at any time.
Both players have become key members of the United squad under the new regime – particularly Herrera. The Basque-born central midfielder has formed an excellent partnership alongside Paul Pogba, and at times last year, the former Bilbao man really was the heartbeat of our starting XI.
Juan Mata is a fan favourite, mostly due to the desire he shows when learning about the rich history and traditions of United. When he does play, the side seems to look a whole lot more fluid and creative. That’s no coincidence. He’s the type of footballer who makes everyone around him better.
The sooner the pair sign these new deals, the better, as it’ll allow them to solely concentrate on playing football.
