Manchester United kick off their Premier League campaign with an extremely tricky game away at Bournemouth, who shocked the Premier League by staying up last term. However today, the Football Association dealt Jose Mourinho a major blow this afternoon.
They took to Twitter to confirm that Jose Mourinho will have to head to the South coast without the services of both Chris Smalling and Paul Pogba, as they are serving suspensions that carry over from last season.
Smalling was infamously sent off in United’s FA Cup triumph against Crystal Palace last term as he picked up two yellows, so will rightly serve a one-match ban.
Paul Pogba’s situation is a bit of an odd one. The French midfielder picked up two bookings in the Italian cup last season, which apparently, is being carried over to the English Premier League.
At the end of the day this is probably a good thing for Pogba. He hasn’t played a minute of action since early July, and it means he’ll be able to get another full weeks worth of training under his belt before United take on Southampton.
