It looks as though Manchester United’s pursuit of Chelsea winger Willian has ended, with Maurizio Sarri all-but confirming the Brazil international will stay at Stamford Bridge this summer.
The report comes from the Manchester Evening News, with Sarri feeling confident that the man who wanted to leave London when Antonio Conte was in charge has obviously hand a change of heart.
“I spoke yesterday with him about him being late, but not his future,”
“It was a very positive conversation and I am very happy about it. I think there is not a Willian problem.”
Sarri was directly asked whether he thinks Willian, will stay. He replied:
“Yes, I do. Very confident.”
This is a real shame. Willian would have been ideal. His Premier League experience and know-how, while also having an excellent relationship with Jose Mourinho, would have meant he could have seamlessly slotted in.
It’s alarming to me that United still haven’t addressed their biggest transfer market need. The right-wing was largely ineffective last term, it doesn’t look like things are going to change for the foreseeable future…
Personally, I’m shocked. It was always going to be tough to get Willian, but unless Edward Woodward has an ace up his sleeve, time is dwindling down on the transfer window and our business has largely remained stagnant.
At this point, I don’t feel confident in regards to catching Manchester City, while that second-place finish could be in jeopardy the way we’re going…
