Manchester United Football Club beat Wigan Athletic in a convincing manner yesterday evening, as Jose Mourinho’s much-changed starting eleven stuck four past the Championship side. On top of that, the Red Devils boss handed two debuts to academy talents.
Joel Pereira came on in the second half in place of Sergio Romero in the Manchester United net, and the other substitute was Axel Tuanzebe coming onto the field.
The talented centre-back has since spoken out about the event, and when he was warming up, Zlatan Ibrahimovic apparently had some wise words for the youngster – which he obviously took on board.
“I was on the touchline and I can hear Zlatan just saying ‘keep it simple, keep it simple’ so I followed his advice and I was just waiting for my moment and it finally came,” MUTV quote Tuanzebe as saying.
“It was crazy, you know since I was a little boy I’ve been thinking of this and now it’s come true. I’m over the moon, I’m still shaking now! You just can’t really believe it’s happened but it’s good for me and my family. I’m very proud.”
“But now it’s just getting back onto the training ground and going again. If I’m with the Under-23s, it’s with the 23s, I stay humble and work hard to get another opportunity to play again.”
This really is brilliant when you read stuff like this. Tuanzebe is like any other young lad who just absolutely adores playing the game, and fortunately for him, he has all the capabilities of doing it at the absolute highest level.
Tuanzebe will be hoping this is just the start of an exciting career at the Theatre of Dreams, and I bet he cannot wait to pull on the jersey again, after having a little taste of the big time.
It’s also good to see Jose Mourinho put that confidence in him and name him as a substitute in such an important game. He came on the field in place of Timothy Fosu-Mensah, and you have to say, he played quite well.
