Manchester United Football Club have always had the belief and tradition of giving youngsters a chance. It is a mantra that Jose Mourinho carried on with on the final day of the season when he handed out debuts galore to our talented academy stars.
The harsh reality is that there simply aren’t enough spaces in the squad for all of them to make it. One player who has been given a couple of first-team appearances over the last couple of years is Joe Riley.
Although, according to The Sun, as per the Daily Star, the 20-year-old is being targeted by Bradford City for a summer transfer. We haven’t seen the left-back take to the field since he suffered from a freak accident in training whilst on loan at Sheffield United.
Riley is a talented player, and we’ve seen him perform brilliantly at youth level for years. It was excellent when Louis van Gaal gave him that chance in the Europa League, but he is now at that point in his career where regular football is an absolute must.
A move to League One would be an ideal scenario for him. He’d be playing every week at a high level and that will only help him grow and develop as a player. Unfortunately, I don’t think Mourinho will give him a regular run in the side next season, so it seems like that would make the most sense for everyone involved.
