Manchester United’s loss against Brighton secured an unwanted record, with the Red Devils losing against all three promoted teams for the first time since the 1990-91 season.
Jose Mourinho’s side lost to Huddersfield before the turn of the year, and have since fallen to both Newcastle, and finally, Brighton.
Each game highlighted exactly why United have been nowhere near a Premier League title charge this season. On so many occasions the players have just failed to turn up, whereas Manchester City’s superstars have delivered the goods every single week.
What’s frustrating is the fact that United have the capabilities to beat anyone on their day. The fact that Mourinho’s team have beaten every other member of the top six backs that point up, but for whatever reason, the lads just cannot seem to get themselves pumped up to take on the so-called lesser sides.
One thing we do know for definite is that mentality simply has to change next season. We’ll no doubt continue to enjoy success against the top teams, but our results against bottom-half sides simply has to improve immediately.
