Preliminary talks held as Man United enter race to sign world-class central midfielder: report

Manchester United Football Club are set to rival FC Barcelona for the signature of Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti, according to Tuttomercatoweb via talkSPORT. The Italian midfielder is open to leaving the Parc des Princes this summer, after spending half a decade with the Ligue 1 giants.

Apparently, United’s scout Jose Mayorga has already held preliminary talks with the representatives of the 24-year-old to test the waters and work out whether he’d be interested in a move to the Theatre of Dreams.

TMW adds that Jose Mourinho is a huge fan of Verratti’s, and the Red Devils are interested in signing a new midfielder this summer.

For me, he’d be absolutely perfect. Although he’s only 24, Verratti has bags of experience under his belt already, and he’s a born winner. Mourinho loves players who work hard and the Italy international certainly does that. He’s the ideal box-to-box midfielder.

In a three alongside Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba, we’d definitely have one of the best combinations in world football if the trio clicked together and were all on the same wavelength.

Although no fee is mentioned, you’d imagine that Verratti would cost a pretty penny. Players of his calibre certainly don’t come cheap in the modern market and the Manchester United owners would have to delve deep into their pockets to make this move happen.
