Manchester United weighing up £50million move for Premier League attacking midfielder: report

Everton’s Ross Barkley is being lined up as a potential summer transfer for Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail. The report reckons that both the Red Devils and Chelsea are monitoring the situation of the 23-year-old, who is also being targeted by Tottenham Hotspur.

Apparently, Everton have slapped a £50million price tag on the Englishman, which to me seems quite high given the fact that he has only twelve months left on his deal at Goodison Park.

The Daily Mail adds that no offers have yet been received, although the fact that some of the Premier League’s top clubs are showing an interest tells you everything you need to know about the calibre of player he is.

My main concern would be the fact that he has been very hit and miss throughout his career. Some may call him a streaky player, but last season wasn’t great for Barkley as he was in and out of the team under Ronald Koeman.

I’ve no doubt that if someone meets their valuation of him, then they’ll be more than happy to let him go and they’ll certainly enjoy spending that money elsewhere.

For me, I’d like to think our priority would be bringing in a more defensive-minded midfielder as well as a winger. We’ll have to wait and see if Edward Woodward can deliver that.
