Manchester United Football Club are ready to spend big on a goalkeeper this summer, and they’ve identified Marc-Andre Ter Stegen as their man.
That’s only if David de Gea decides to leave Old Trafford, Don Balon says, translated by the Daily Mail. The Germany international has kept 18 clean sheets this term; a remarkable return for La Liga giants FC Barcelona.
Apparently, Jose Mourinho is willing to spend a huge £88million to land 26-year-old Ter Stegen; which is a huge sum for a goalkeeper.
It was just last week that AS Roma man Alisson was linked with a United move, leading me to believe that the club are rather worried about the prospect of losing De Gea this term.
For the last few summers, Real Madrid’s interest in our #1 just won’t go away, and I get the feeling that we’ll eventually lose De Gea to Los Blancos; hence the continued reports linking United with a new goalkeeper.
I think we could do a whole lot worse than signing Ter Stegen as a replacement. We’re talking about an extremely competent goalkeeper who’s probably in the discussion in regards to the best shot-stoppers on the planet. The problem? He’s not THE best, whereas De Gea is. Whoever we sign as a replacement, we’d be taking a step backwards which is something that just cannot be avoided.
