Manchester United are amongst a number of sides considering making a move for Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo.
That’s what Italian media outlet Calciomercato say, with Juventus also keen on the man from Portugal.
Cancelo, 23, has spent the season on loan at Inter Milan where he has made a positive impression, and it would make sense for the Red Devils to bring in some added quality in the full-back position.
An excellent selling point for Cancelo is the fact that he can play on either side. Versatility is huge in the modern-game, meaning Jose Mourinho could potentially slot him in the side in two different positions as he sees fit from game-to-game.
Let’s not beat around the bush, here. Antonio Valencia isn’t getting any younger. In fact, he’ll be 33 next season, and he simply cannot keep buccaneering up and down that right-flank forever.
Milan actually have the opportunity to pay £35million to sign the Portuguese defender this summer, but the report reckons that they’ll pass up on that chance due to Financial Fair Play restrictions; giving United the opportunity to pounce should they deem a move viable.
Personally, I’d love to see it happen. Although, don’t forget we have Timothy Fosu-Mensah coming back from Crystal Palace after an excellent loan spell.
