Manchester United Football Club have had a torrid three years under various managers since Sir Alex Ferguson decided to retire, and amongst that we’ve seen some shocking signings. Angel di Maria was a fail, and it looks like Memphis Depay is too. However, the worst of the lot has to have been Radamel Falcao.
The Columbian striker nicknamed ‘El Tigre’ was more like a household tabby cat rather than a tiger, and he never really got going at the Theatre of Dreams.
However, Monaco’s vice-president Vadim Vasilyev believes that both Manchester United and Chelsea failed the 30-year-old during his time in England.
‘Both clubs in England failed to relaunch him,’ said Vasilyev. ‘I don’t know whether Manchester United and Chelsea did not have the patience or the desire to do that but I am quite sure this year we will see Falcao at his previous best.’
‘He is the same Falcao as he ever. We’ve seen that in pre-season. He scores goals, he’s there and he is motivated, we are motivated and I think this will be his year.’
It was a real shame what happened with Radamel, because there was a time when he was borderline unstoppable and without doubt, one of the best forwards in the world.
Injuries have probably ruined his career, though, and although AS Monaco have an excellent striker on their books, you feel he’s half the player he once was.
I’m not quite sure how United failed him at all. He got plenty of chances to prove his worth and he didn’t take any of them, and the exact same thing happened at Chelsea.
