Sure, it’ll be Marcus Rashford taking all the plaudits following Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool, but the Red Devils owe a great deal of debt to Scott McTominay.
The 21-year-old midfielder continued to show a maturity beyond his years as he controlled the middle of the park, almost single-handedly at times. He wasn’t afraid to put a tackle in, nor was he scared to get involved in a physical battle; something which he won more often than not.
McTominay led the way with a game-high five interceptions, which is a magnificent total that shows just how positionally aware he is. Honestly, it was an outstanding overall display and without him, I doubt we’d come out on top in the heavyweight clash that took place at Old Trafford.
Huge credit must go to Jose Mourinho for allowing him to develop and grow at such a remarkable rate, and McTominay is certainly repaying the manager’s faith in him.
As you’d imagine, Twitter was awash with United fans full of praise for their new terrace hero, and you can hardly blame them! Now it looks as though McTominay is a shoe-in to start against Sevilla on Tuesday, but for now, check out the best reactions to his game here.

McTominay was the best midfielder on the pitch yesterday, bossed it

Scott McTominay has put in the performance of a lifetime. Put his body in front of everything, even after being on the receiving end of some rather painful knocks. So proud of him stepping up and delivering after Mourinho trusted him against top sides.

McTominay has been quietly efficient with his defensive work today. Solid performance so far. Very inpressive from someone so young in such a huge match.

He has his doubters but that was a superb performance from Young. Totally neutralised Salah. Thought McTominay was very good too. Great game

Scott McTominay & Jose Mourinho both deserve huge credit. The youngster has shown no nerves under supreme pressure in 3 big fixtures, whilst Mourinho has backed him on the pitch & off it by giving him confidence in the media. Great to see this happening at a big club in 2018.
