Manchester United made it two wins out of two on pre-season tour, as Jose Mourinho’s men beat Real Salt Lake 2-1. The game itself was anything but a classic, and it got even worse when Antonio Valencia saw red for a pretty poor tackle midway through the second half.
Perhaps the standout performer on the day was Jesse Lingard. The Warrington-born-winger started the game and played the first 45 minutes before being subbed off, and he had an extremely positive impact on the game.
An underrated part about his style of play is the superb movement and intelligent runs that he makes. It causes defenders real problems as they get dragged out of position and that creates space for others.
He was right at the heart of everything good for the Red Devils today, and his passing was accurate, and more often than not he was picking the right ball. I was particularly impressed with the link-up play between him and Romelu Lukaku as the pair seemed to work really well together.
On the whole, it was an excellent display from the 24-year-old, and it was nice to see Twitter giving him some praise for a change.
Check out the tweets aimed at Jesse Lingard’s performance below:
Jesse Lingard probably the best of the bunch on the day. He played well & linked up superbly with Romelu Lukaku.

Well that was poor. Fosu, Pereira, Lingard the only players who stood out. Formation was a bad fit. Glad got up at 3am!! 🙄Shite. #mufc

Lingard best player. TFM Martial Mkhi and Mitchell good too. Lukaku and Rashford had nothing so unfair to judge. Rest were whack

Lingard has had an impressive first two games so far. Also Pereira deserves to get some proper minutes in midfield this season

Lingard man of the match in the first half, Pereira man of the match in the 2nd half

Lingard/Pogba off and the football becomes poor. It's no surprise.
