Manchester United and homegrown academy products has always been a match made in heaven. That trend looks set to continue, even under the ‘defensive, big spending’ Jose Mourinho. One of the stars of the show against Burton Albion on Wednesday was Marcus Rashford.
The young star has been in stunning form at the start of the 2017/18 season, and he wasn’t going to let up against the Championship side in the Carabao Cup.
Within five minutes the man from Wythenshawe had got himself on the scoresheet after a brilliantly worked move. Then, midway through the first half he doubled United’s lead with a stunning effort from outside of the area.
Rashford continued to terrorise the Burton defence throughout, due to sheer pace, trickery and intelligent running, and his game was capped off when he picked up an assist for his pal Anthony Martial.
There has always been something special about watching a young Mancunian lad pull on the Red Devils jersey, and we’re watching a gem of a footballer play for the club he loves week-in-week-out right now. I don’t think we realise just how good this boy can be, and Twitter was full of praise for him in the wake of our 4-1 victory over Burton.

There's absolutely no better sight than watching Marcus Rashford score goals for Manchester United. What a gem.

The joy I get from seeing Rashford score is, I can only imagine, what it's like seeing your first born.

Rashford scores again. That's six goals for club and country already. Took him until January to get there last season.

Rashford is getting better and better. And the best thing is he will get even better and better still. The lad has it.

Another game with so many positives. Martial and Rashford are ridiculous talents, Mourinho has improved both of them.
