Ander Herrera has always been a firm fan-favourite. The Basque-born midfielder has forced his way back into Jose Mourinho’s plans following an excellent cameo against AFC Bournemouth last Saturday.
The former Athletic Club man was named in the starting line-up against Juventus, and from minute one, you could see what he brings to the table. It’s not only the energy, but the drive, desire and willingness to win.
Herrera drives his teammates forward in a way that no other members of this squad can. It was a real brilliant display from a man that was once named Manchester United’s Player of the Year during Jose Mourinho’s debut season.
He was subbed in the second half, but that’s to be expected when you’ve not been playing with regularity, and now, he looks a shoe-in to start in the Manchester derby this coming Sunday.
Now, it’s time for Herrera to really kick on from here and show his manager what he can do on a consistent basis.
As you’d imagine, the Red Devils fans were buzzing all over social media, and there was certainly some high praise for United’s #21 and rightly so.
Ander Herrera's game by numbers vs. Juventus:
1 key pass
6 ball recoveries
96% pass accuracy

Ander Herrera appreciation tweet.
He's been everywhere tonight and has made us look so compact in the middle. Not to mention his passing out wide which goes unnoticed. 🇪🇸

Ander Herrera won player of the year as a DM yet some still think he can't replace a certain nemanja matic who hasn't had a good game since March
