Manchester United Football Club are rapidly closing in on the sale of yet another one of Louis van Gaal’s signings. That man is Memphis Depay, and earlier it was reported that Lyon has agreed on a fee to sign the talented 22-year-old. Now we’ve decided to take a look at what the fans think of the move.
When United signed the Dutchman over eighteen months ago now, big things were expected of the former PSV Eindhoven player. As we all know, he really hasn’t lived up to the hype thus far which is a real shame. Whether that’s down to a lack of playing time remains to be seen, but we’ll probably find out when this move goes through.
As you for the Manchester United crowd, they were very split regarding Memphis Depay. Some are upset at how things panned out here, whereas others literally cannot wait to see the back of him. Someone better tell them that there is indeed a buyback clause reportedly in the deal, so we may well see him back here in the future…

Disappointed in how Memphis Depay's career at Utd worked out. Hope he does go to Lyon and tears up Ligue 1 #memphisdepay #MUFC

I guess my #Depay #7 jersey is now old. Still like the player and I'll root for him now that he's off to Lyon. #MUFC

Getting £40m for Depay and Schneiderlin on top of freeing up 2 squad spots + wages is solid business by us in this window. #MUFC

Good riddance to Memphis Depay.
He blew an amazing opportunity, got to wear the Number 7…
Luckily he'll be easily forgotten.#MUFC— Billy Meredith (@UrmstonLordMUFC) January 18, 2017
Memphis 'The Hype' Depay. Close the door on your way out son #MUFC

Fair to say with the hype and taking number 7; Depay was nothing short of a complete disaster. Though he'd made it by just signing #mufc

#Depay attitude problem, too greedy on the ball, very talented, wrong attitude won't be a loss to #mufc

From a personal point of view, a move away really is good for his career. At this point in time he looks totally bereft of confidence, and the fact that he hasn’t started a Premier League game at all this season obviously won’t help that matter.
A move to Ligue 1 will hopefully give him the regular football his talents deserve, and I wish him all the success out in France.
