Well, there you have it. Manchester United will take a 1-1 draw back to Old Trafford next week, after a very tricky first leg out in Russia. FC Rostov certainly provided a stern test, and the terrible condition of the pitch definitely didn’t help matters at all.
Things got off to a good start, and the man at the heart of everything positive about Manchester United tonight was none other than Marouane Fellaini.
The much-maligned Belgian played a key part in the goal and his physicality was a real asset against a tough-tackling Russian league side. Nights like tonight were made for the 29-year-old, and to be fair to him he took his chance.
I’d even go as far as suggesting that Fellaini was quite easily the best player on the pitch, and I’d seriously consider giving him the nod in the next game against Chelsea – which takes place on Monday.
To my surprise, I refreshed my Twitter feed to be pleasantly surprised that other Reds felt the same about Marouane, and it was absolutely lovely to see him getting some credit. We’ve compiled some of the best tweets about him below.
Check out the tweets aimed at Fellaini here:
Brilliant play by Fellaini and Ibra in the build up for the goal

A battle out there tonight. Fellaini our best player. Pogba terrible again. Decent result. #mufc

Can't fault Fellaini today, did his job well and created the goal.

Rojo and Fellaini were our best players tonight. Hopefully we can put 3 or 4 past them next week at OT.

#ManUtd Well thought that was a good result in the end. No injuries and away goal. Fellaini my MOTM .

Fellaini our best player, on a pitch you can't play football on. Interesting.

That game tonight can only be a good thing for his confidence, and hopefully, this gives him a much-needed boost and he can start playing well every week.
