Manchester United Football Club made a huge £38million move to bring in the little-known Anthony Martial at the time, and what a twelve months it has been for him. Today, he earned a start for France at the European Championships for the first time in his career.
Didier Deschamps decided to start with Martial as Antoine Griezmann reportedly needed a rest, but the French manager didn’t stick with the United forward for long as he was hooked at half-time.
In the first half France didn’t look menacing at all, and you’d always felt that someone was going to be substituted to try and bring some life to proceedings. Unfortunately, that man was Martial, despite an equally poor display from Olivier Giroud.
Sadly our 20-year-old forward didn’t grasp his big opportunity with both hands, but there is still plenty of time for him to make an impression on this tournament.
As you’d imagine, the Manchester United fans weren’t happy with Martial getting subbed, and they took to Twitter to vent their frustrations.
Check out some of the fan tweets here:
– Anthony Martial is a decent player with great potential. one bad game doesn’t change that.

Anthony Martial lost possession 13 times (of 28 touches), more than any other player of France in the first half v Albania….
