Manchester United Football Club has been installed as the favourites to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, according to ESPN, per Soccer Laduma.
Apparently, The Citizens have pulled out of the race to sign the 25-year-old after turning their attention to someone else; leaving Jose Mourinho’s men in pole position to acquire the midfielder.
It comes as no surprise to see the Red Devils linked with midfielders. It’s an area that certainly needs work, particularly when you consider the fact that Marouane Fellaini is yet to pen a new deal while Michael Carrick will retire at the end of the campaign.
Shakhtar are resigned to losing their star midfielder in the summer, and no doubt he’ll cost a pretty penny but what a signing this would be if Mourinho could pull it off.
In my opinion, he’d complement Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba wonderfully well which has to be the aim. Freeing up the Frenchman is what we’ve been craving for all season, and next year, that’s probably the key to domestic success.
Fred has played 146 times for Shakhtar, scoring 14 while tacking on 12 assists for his teammates.
