Manchester United Football Club certainly should be looking to add to the squad when the January transfer window opens – that’s if the board have aspirations to win silverware.
Now, according to The Sun, the Red Devils are favourites to land Marko Arnautovic, with the 29-year-old declaring that he wants to leave West Ham United. Jose Mourinho isn’t alone in the pursuit, however, with Maurizio Sarri and Chelsea also keen.
Obviously, Arnautovic wants to play at a higher level, and the performances he has been putting in recently certainly show that he is more than capable. He has to get this big-money move sooner rather than later, however, as he isn’t getting any younger.
In terms of what he’d offer, it’d be worth taking a punt on the Austrian. Let’s face it, Romelu Lukaku isn’t producing the goods at the moment, and perhaps the Belgian needs some of the pressure taken off of his shoulders…
Having that extra body would provide more competition, which would, in turn, spur both players on to perform better. While I would like to see Arnautovic join, I would also urge Edward Woodward to ensure that he doesn’t overpay for a 29-year-old. That’s a mistake already made when he sanctioned a deal to bring Nemanja Matic in.
