Manchester United host PSV Eindhoven tomorrow night at Old Trafford, with Louis van Gaal hoping to secure a safe passage to the Champions League knockout rounds with a victory. However, in the training session today several key figures were missing from action, which certainly doesn’t help proceedings.
Ander Herrera, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Michael Carrick and Phil Jones were all unavailable to train for different reasons, and Louis van Gaal will certainly be sweating on their fitness as we enter the hectic winter schedule.
The Spanish midfielder Herrera limped off with what looked like a hamstring issue early on in the 2-1 victory away at Watford, so he could be missing for a few weeks.
Michael Carrick picked up a problem whilst playing for England a week or so ago, and his return date is yet to be determined.
Phil Jones also came off in the Watford game, and the extent of his injury hasn’t been revealed by Louis van Gaal, but hopefully it won’t keep him out for too long.
Finally Bastian Schweinsteiger missed out today, with the experienced German needing a rest day, according to Louis van Gaal. Who knows, he may well be fit and ready to go come 7:45 tomorrow.
