Manchester United’s game against Liverpool was a drab affair in terms of the football on offer. In fact, the most exciting thing to happen was an off-ball incident between Romelu Lukaku and Dejan Lovren.
As the first-half was winding down, the pair became entangled after a tackle, and on commentary, Gary Neville seemed to hint at Lukaku kicking out in the direction of Lovren’s face.
In my opinion, it was an accident incident that was nothing more than an ordinary coming together. Now Sky Sports News have claimed that the 24-year-old will not face any further action, and rightly so.

Throughout the game, Lukaku cut a frustrated figure due to a lack of chances. He became so isolated from minute one, as Manchester United deployed a defence-first system. Before the coming together with Lovren, Lukaku hacked down Alberto Moreno – for which he probably should have been booked. But, the incident in question was absolutely nothing – in fact, I’m surprised we’re even talking about it.
At the end of the day, Lukaku has been absolutely superb for Jose Mourinho and Manchester United. He’s scored eleven goals in eleven games, which is a record that nobody would have expected. He’s allowed to have an off-day every now and then – and I expect him to go back to his brilliant best against SL Benfica on Wednesday night.
