For Manchester United, the injuries had been mounting up during the international break. However, there has been some good news today…
According to the Manchester Evening News, Diogo Dalot is fit and ready to take on Crystal Palace this weekend, should the 19-year-old be called upon by Jose Mourinho.
Dalot was signed over the summer, but since his arrival, the Portuguese right-back has spent the majority of his time sidelined. However, during the two games in which he has played, the former Porto man has looked like a special talent.
He’s quick, strong, tall, tough in the tackle and positionally aware. With players like Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia ageing and underperforming, it’s pretty clear why United fans have been demanding that Dalot get his chance to prove his worth.
I know he’s young, and we’d prefer to be patient with him, but needs must. Let’s be honest, he cannot do any worse than the aforementioned duo of wingers who have been converted to play in the full-back slots, and sometimes, familiarity with the position outweighs experience and ability.
For Dalot, I bet he’s chomping at the bit. He wants his regular opportunities to prove his worth, and it could well start with this game against Palace on Saturday afternoon.
